School….something we all did not enjoy at the time but I bet most of us if not all of us secretly miss those days….
I was a kid who never did well academically, but I loved school for all the activities, sports and fun. I think I spent more time outside the classroom than actually inside it. The best 20 – 30 minutes of school was definitely the recess or break or time to eat for food loving kids like me….
My parents always tried to give us home cooked meals for school tiffin’s. However, there were times when we were given cash to take meals from the school canteen. Now the canteen was just a stall where people would sell you sandwiches and snacks, nothing too elaborate but just what we needed. I enjoyed all of it but most definitely loved the food from home. Again, these were simple things and I’m sure like all families, my parents would struggle to keep it exciting for us.
Here is a list of a few things I had in my school tiffin and maybe some of you could relate to this. We had chapatti with jam, chutney sandwich, egg sandwich, noodles, chapatti with sabzi, keema & pav, poha and the list can go on… Hats off to my mum who would wake up at 5 every morning to ensure we had something ready for our tiffin before she left for work. The golden rule at home was that the tiffin always had to be empty when we got home…. of course, that was never a problem for me!!
I have added a Goan green Chutney recipe. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did in my Sandwiches.
