All of us have memories of when we were children and I have plenty too. Weirdly a lot of my best memories revolve around occasions where food is involved. I was always excited for Easter or Christmas or birthdays and celebrations.
The excitement was not as much for new clothes or gifts but it was for all the lovely food that we would prepare at home. For my grandmother, celebrations were complete only when you had plenty of food at home. We always had to cook 3 to 4 dishes and there was in some way a set menu. For Christmas and Easter, you always had pork, beef and chicken on the menu. Even to this day, we follow this tradition. Even though I live miles away from Mumbai, I have continued the tradition of cooking up a feast every time I entertain. I guess it’s a way of feeling connected with family…
Food for me was always something that brought people together. My parents and my grandparents always set an example…and I am extremely thankful for that!
Today I’m sharing a Goan recipe that I have grown up with and love… Mutton Xacuti!
